Why does my iPhone say "Transcription unavailable"?
Sound Off uses Apple's on-device speech model, which needs the Apple Neural Engine in the iPhone's chip. iPhone 11 / SE 2nd gen and earlier don't have one fast enough to run it. iPhone 12 and newer all work.
There's no workaround. Without an on-device model the app would have to upload your audio to a server, which we don't do.
Can I edit the captions Sound Off generates?
Yes. Long-press any word in the strip below the video to edit, split, merge, delete, or emphasise it. The caption preview updates as you go.
Why is there a watermark on my export?
Free exports include a small "Sound Off Captions" watermark in the bottom-right corner. Unlocking the app removes the watermark and gives you the full caption style catalogue. The watermark is the only difference between free and paid exports; every other feature of the app is free.
How do I unlock Pro?
Tap any locked caption style in the editor, or open Settings → Unlock Pro. It's a one-time purchase via the App Store; you'll see your local price before confirming. No subscription.
How do I restore my purchase on a new device?
Settings → Restore Purchase. Works across any device signed into the same Apple ID. If the restore doesn't pick up the purchase, make sure you're signed into the App Store with the same Apple ID you used for the original purchase.
Where are my projects stored?
On the device, in the app's sandbox. Other apps can't see them and they don't sync between your devices. If you have iCloud Backup turned on, your projects are included in that backup the same way the rest of your app data is, and restore when you set up a new iPhone. They're never uploaded to iCloud Drive and aren't visible at iCloud.com. Deleting Sound Off from your iPhone removes every project from the device.
Does Sound Off send my videos anywhere?
No. Transcription uses Apple's on-device speech model; rendering and export run locally too. Your videos, audio, and transcripts stay on the iPhone. See our Privacy Policy for the full story.
How do I delete a project, or all my data?
To delete one project: tap the • • • menu in the bottom-right of its tile, then tap Delete. To delete everything in one go: delete the Sound Off app from your iPhone (long-press the home-screen icon, then Remove App → Delete App).
