Sound Off

Sound Off vs Mojo

Mojo is a slick Reels and template editor. It's also a cloud app: to power its AI features it can send your video to third-party servers, including one in China. Sound Off does captions on your iPhone, and sends nothing anywhere.

Straight from the App Store. Every app declares its data practices to Apple. Here's what each one says about itself.

"User Content" means your videos and photos. Mojo's label says it's collected and linked to your identity. Sound Off's label says nothing is collected at all.

Mojo is a Western app, but that doesn't mean your footage stays close to home. Its own privacy policy spells out the trip your video takes when you use its AI features.

"images or videos, which may include faces, are sent to trusted third-party providers… only when the User initiates the use of these features."

Mojo Privacy Policy

And the policy lists where those providers process your content. Among them:

  • Google AIUnited States
  • falUnited States
  • GladiaFrance
  • KlingChina

So a video you shot on your phone, to add some captions, can end up on a server in another country to be processed. That's not a knock on any one vendor: it's just how cloud AI works. The point is that it leaves your device at all.

Sound Off transcribes, styles, and exports entirely on your iPhone, using Apple's on‑device speech model. There is no upload, no account, and no third‑party AI provider in the loop.

Put your iPhone in airplane mode.

Sound Off still works.

Try that with a cloud editor.

Mojo's Pro runs as a recurring subscription. Sound Off is a single purchase: you pay once and it's yours.

Once Sound Off · one‑time purchase
Every month Mojo Pro · subscription

To be fair to Mojo: it does far more than captions, with templates, transitions, and a polished Reels toolkit, and it keeps its face detection on your device ("does not collect, store, or transmit any face data"). If you want a full template editor, it's a good one. Sound Off isn't trying to replace it. It does one thing (stylish, accurate captions for vertical video) and it does that one thing without your video ever leaving your iPhone.

Captions that stay on your phone.

On‑device transcription, twelve caption styles, a one‑time purchase.

Data practices are taken from Mojo's and Sound Off's App Store privacy labels ("App Privacy", captured June 2026) and from Mojo's published privacy policy (Archery Inc.), which names the third-party providers and their processing locations quoted above. Content is sent to those providers, per the policy, "only when the User initiates the use of these features." Labels and policies can change; quotes reflect June 2026.
